KARIPUR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (KSDP)

Community development work was begun in 1995 in a small scale in Karipur, a village located 20 km from Trivandrum. KSDP, where the program is conceived in a large scale, was launched in 2018. Karipur is a backward village with a high population density faring poorlyon almost all the social indices.

Multiple visits, numerous surveys, mapping exercises and informal discussions were carried out to assess the needs of a diverse range of community members. Stakeholders like local self-government representatives and political leaders were involved. These activities helped establish a good rapport with all the stakeholders and has also ensured the involvement of local community members in the overall project planning and formulation of the
developmental programs.

KSDP focuses on poverty alleviation, livelihood opportunities, improved access to health services, provision of basic amenities and infrastructure facilities with the aim of improving the social and human capital. The project provides holistic development programs for children, promotes women empowerment, supports senior citizens, assists the differently abled, provides vocational training, and addresses the health needs as well as the sanitation of the community.

Initiatives undertaken:
