The unlettered are helped to develop reading and writing abilities and are educated on their rights, duties and privileges to help them make informed choices.

Helping adults gain literacy skills increases their self-esteem, reduces poverty, improves health status, and helps them make well-informed decisions. Adult literacy is crucial for the socio-economic development and self-reliance of individuals. Stress is placed on equipping them with elementary reading and writing skills, basic computer skills, importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, maintaining good hygiene, and managing their emotions in a positive way.

The program works in co-ordination with the Continuing Education Centers functioning under the local self-government institutions of the Literacy Mission, Government of Kerala.
